Read 3 John 1:1–11. Write a brief comparison between the actions of Gaius and Diotrephes. Read the institute student manual Points to Ponder section, “Disobedience to Priesthood Authority” (p. 441). List some of the results that come to those who criticize the leaders of the Church. Read Alma 39:11. What influence could Gaius’s and Diotrephes’s examples have on others?
Well the actions of Gaius and Diotriphes differ in a couple of ways. The first way is that Gaius tries to teach the saints the ways of God. And he strives to be kind to all that he meets. Where Diotriphes is deceiving members of the church and he is really stuck up or prideful.
Those that criticize the leaders of the Church specifically the Prophet are basically cutting the thread that binds them to the prophet. They are sending themselves to a spiritual death.
They could give other people the thought to follow them. Or in other words they could either lead them astray or help them find the truth.
We do not want or need to be lead astray; if we are then we will be in trouble. Let us all strive to follow Christ and strive to be like him.
